As a non-profit organization, the DGNB has been committed since its foundation in 2007 to a sustainable built environment. The goal is the transformation of the construction and real estate market towards an adequate understanding of quality as the basis for responsible, sustainable action:Through the association with its approximately 1,200 member organizations, which are actively involved and make the DGNB Europe's largest network for sustainable construction.Through the certification of sustainable buildings, interiors and neighborhoods, with which different aspects of sustainable design, construction and operation become practically applicable;Through the DGNB Academy, which provides the necessary expertise on the requirements of sustainable construction;Through the DGNB Navigator, which lists numerous construction products with all the relevant information on their sustainability qualities;Through research and development, which help to continuously evaluate and think about sustainability in construction.The substantive basis of the DGNB is a holistic understanding of sustainability, which includes ecological, economic and socio-cultural issues.
