Nespresso Belux has launched a local initiative. A tree has been offered to all the employees in Belgium and Luxembourg. Here's why.Trees enrich soil and provide vital shade for the coffee farms — and that’s just for starters. A steady temperature is one of the most important environmental factors to affect the quality of coffee, so trees are the perfect addition to a coffee farm. Like parasols presiding over the fields, tree leaves provide natural shade to keep coffee plants cool – and protect against heavy rain – while their roots help prevent soil erosion. But that’s not all trees do. They can generate an extra income for coffee farmers by providing them with wood, fruit, spices and herbs. They also enrich soil with organic matter, absorb carbon dioxide and restore biodiversity as they create a habitat for wildlife. So you’ll understand why we’ve been really busy planting lots of trees. This is just some of what we’ve been up to.Thank you for being part of the Nespresso sustainability story. The trees we plant have big ambitions: to bring benefits not only to the environment, but also to the people who live in it. That's why we work with NGOs and local communities to select the right tree for the right place and the right purpose.
