The Forest
Planting a tree is the most exemplary gesture of future thinking. An old Sicilian saying quoted: “citrus for our sons, olives for our nephews”, pointing out how farmers were seeding and planting for the next generations rather than for their own interest. This forest is a gift related to the online interview ethics4growth is doing with Riel Miller, the foremost expert in the field of Future Literacy, a stream he developed within UNESCO to help developing communities in designing a brighter future. Each participation in this event corresponds to the plantation of a tree: a symbolic – yet impacting – action representing all those who care and wish to plan the future in a proper way. Every tree will be the icon of the production of human capital, able to understand that the future is not something that happens, rather that is something we – as individuals and as communities – make happen. Designing the future is not foolishness, is science.
Impact
The trees we plant have big ambitions: to bring benefits not only to the environment, but also to the people who live in it. That's why we work with NGOs and local communities to select the right tree for the right place and the right purpose. That’s why we think about the medium and long term, because we’re not content with simply planting trees: we want to see them grow.
