The CGMS has coordinated space-based observations for the benefit of the user community for 50 years. Now we would also like to help from the ground up – that is why we are planting a bunch of trees to further benefit our beautiful planet.

The CGMS forest

The Coordination Group for Meteorological Satellites (CGMS) globally coordinates meteorological satellite systems and in recent years the observation of the climate has been added. This includes protection of in-orbit assets, contingency planning, improvement of quality of data, support to users, facilitation of shared data access and development of the use of satellite products in key application areas. The coordination is pursued from an end-to-end perspective, from and across all meteorological satellite operators in close coordination with the WMO and IOC-UNESCO. The members of the CGMS are the satellite agencies of CMA, CNES, CNSA, ESA, EUMETSAT, JAXA, JMA, ISRO, KMA, NASA, NOAA, ROSCOSMOS, and ROSHYDROMET together with user community representatives from the IMD, IOC-UNESCO, and WMO.
