Thailand is known as "the land of smiles" and is renowned for the hospitality of its people, the richness of its nature, the beauty of its beaches and islands. Treedom's activity is concentrated in the valleys of the north-western hills where the climate is warm all year round, except during the winter, when it's sunny but cool, especially when large masses of cold air come down from China. The goal of the Treedom project is to contribute to creating an alternative to an agricultural practice, very widespread in the area, called slash-and-burn and to do so by introducing sustainable, biological and permanent agroforestry practices. In addition, planted trees will absorb CO₂, limit soil erosion and provide fruits and income opportunities to the more than 1,000 farmers involved.

Few people know that it can grow up to 45 meters in height and can produce great quantities of fruit: it can be eaten fresh or processed and used in many different recipes. Actually, that is the reason why it is planted: to provide fruit to the local population, who can eat it or trade it.
