Ecuador, a land of biodiversity spanning the Andes, the Amazon, and the Galápagos, is home to Treedom's agroforestry projects. In the provinces of Manabí and Cotopaxi, there is a specific focus on the sustainable cultivation of coffee and cocoa, working with local communities and universities for a greener, more inclusive future.

Curiosity about me

The important moments in your tree's life.

Let's start with introductions

The tornillo can be found throughout the Amazon basin, but also in northern South America and Central America. The tree can grow up to 60 metres high, with the trunk alone sometimes reaching 40 metres. However, it takes quite a long time for it to reach this size, because the tornillo grows very slowly. On the other hand, its wood can later be used in many ways and is popular locally.

Meaning

Flakey

The bark of the tornillo often looks flaky and peeled off. Ironically, it can be used to make an anti-dandruff shampoo.

Soil

Soil

It improves the quality of the soil thanks to the nitrogen fixation process or it reduces soil erosion, thanks to its extended root system.

My benefits

20%

Food Security

The trees will bear fruits, some that will be edible immediately and others that can become edible through processing, ensuring food resources over time.

20%

Economic development

The trees' fruits and the products derived from their transformation can be traded in local networks, offering income opportunities.

30%

CO₂ Absorption

During its life cycle, each tree will absorb CO₂. The trees you plant can offset your emissions.

80%

Environmental protection

The trees are planted in agroforestry systems that favor the virtuous interaction between the different species and their positive impact on the environment and on the land.
