La forêt Planting a tree is the most exemplary gesture of future thinking. An old Sicilian saying quoted: “citrus for our sons, olives for our nephews”, pointing out how farmers were seeding and planting for the next generations rather than for their own interest. This forest is a gift related to the online interview ethics4growth is doing with Riel Miller, the foremost expert in the field of Future Literacy, a stream he developed within UNESCO to help developing communities in designing a brighter future. Each participation in this event corresponds to the plantation of a tree: a symbolic – yet impacting – action representing all those who care and wish to plan the future in a proper way. Every tree will be the icon of the production of human capital, able to understand that the future is not something that happens, rather that is something we – as individuals and as communities – make happen. Designing the future is not foolishness, is science.
